Summer is here! Despite tagedy, strife and sadness, the summer sun and the brightest, longest days of the year are time to celebrate the good things that come our way. Here's some music for a beautiful summer evening in the Columbia-Pacific region.

- Habib Koite -Bitile, from his 1999 Putumayo release "Ma Ya". Habib and his band Bamada are huge influence in Malian and W. African music.

- Orchestra Baobab -Ami kita bay from their excellent 2008 release "Made in Dakar." These folks are real legends spanning decades of music.
- Pape & Cheikh -Jello from their 2002 Real World release, "Mariama".
- Daara J -Le Cycle a track featuring Malian singer Rokia Traore from this Senegalese rap band's 2005 release titled "Boomerang." Shows how hip-hop has gone global...
